AmeriCorps member spotlight: Meet Ricquele!
Hello! I am Ricquele Brooks, first-year AmeriCorps member at Â鶹ÊÓƵ, and I proudly serve on the United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County team at James Madison Academic Campus.
Why I serve
I serve with Â鶹ÊÓƵ because I want to be a part of something bigger than myself. I didn’t have people like Â鶹ÊÓƵ in my life as a kid growing up that I needed or even a real mentor. I was always scared to open up when I struggled at things in the classroom. But putting myself in the opposite shoes to help kids like I was at their age is something I look forward to. I serve in the algebra, ninth-grade classroom. My joy is seeing students understand the materials we give them to be successful. I serve alongside with the most outstanding, wonderful, smartest teammates ever. Team time is one of our best ways of getting to know one another better.
About me
I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I’m 21 years old, and I am a Sagittarius. My favorite colors are pink, green and yellow. I love music and enjoy sunsets. Also, city views at night in car rides are the best!! My go to fast food meal is a large plate of cheesy fries and a nice juicy burger (yummy). I have a sweet new kitty named Stomi, and I love her so much.Â
I grew up with two older brothers, one older sister and one baby sister. I am a very optimistic person and love seeing elderly couples dance together as if they were young; I think it’s very romantic.
It’s been an honor to serve with Â鶹ÊÓƵ Milwaukee this school year!
Do you know a 17–25-year-old interested in doing a year of service with Â鶹ÊÓƵ Milwaukee? Encourage them to apply today!
