Our executive director, staff, alumni, board members and partners are committed to building a stronger Cleveland by supporting and developing our AmeriCorps members as leaders in their schools and community.
Born and raised in the vibrant but challenging inner city neighborhood of Homewood in Pittsburgh, PA, I witnessed firsthand the harsh realities of life that deeply influenced my purpose. I attended Schenley High School, where I earned a basketball scholarship to Point Park College, majoring in Education. With a strong foundation in my field, I established an after-school program aimed at uplifting youth in my community.
I joined Â鶹ÊÓƵ in 1993, and over the course of two decades, I managed operations across six sites: Columbus, Cleveland, Detroit, Philadelphia, New Orleans, and Baton Rouge. My role as Executive Director involved overseeing staff and corps members, navigating recruitment and admissions, engaging volunteers, driving fundraising efforts, and ensuring corps member retention, alongside strategic planning and fostering external partnerships.
In October 2013, I was honored to lead The Ward Branch YMCA of Central Ohio as Executive Director. It was a privilege to serve and impact such an amazing community. Following that, I took on the role of Director of Student Mentoring with the Columbus City School District, spearheading vital mentoring initiatives. Most recently, I served as the Senior Vice President of A Kid Again, guiding a team of Executive Directors nationwide in our mission to provide hope, joy, and healing to children facing life-threatening conditions. Since 1995, A kid Again has delivered year-round Adventures that allow children to embrace their inner child again.
Staying true to my community roots, I actively collaborate with grassroots organizations in every city I’ve called home. Today, I continue to mentor and inspire countless young individuals across the country. As a devoted husband and father to a 24-year-old daughter, I feel a profound responsibility to set the right example, not just for her, but for every young person I encounter. My commitment to nurturing the next generation is unvarying.
